William George Harden

William George Harden went home to the Lord December 19, 2015. He was born on October 1, 1927 in Zebulon, Georgia. He was married to his wife of 59 years, the late Rosamond Mitchell Harden, who predeceased him on February 26, 2014. They faithfully served together in many capacities at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro where Mr. Harden also served as a Deacon. Upon graduating from high school Mr. Harden served his country in the United States Navy. Following his service, Mr. Harden earned a B.S. in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Georgia in 1951. He also earned a M.S. in Agricultural Engineering from Auburn University in 1958. Mr. Harden worked in his own business as a design and consulting engineer for over 35 years. Mr. Harden, known affectionately by all his family as "Uncle Bill" could make or build anything the mind could imagine and fish would get in line to bite his hook. Uncle Bill and Aunt Ro moved to Macon from Jonesboro in 2008 to be closer to family. They worshiped at Tabernacle Baptist Church and Uncle Bill's family home church Flatrock Primitive Baptist Church in Zebulon. The Harden's traveled to Canada and the northwest on mission trips in his retirement. Uncle Bill was a servant, friend, mentor and avid fisherman with all that enjoyed his company. Mr. Harden was predeceased by his parents John I. Harden, Sr. and Bessie Parker Harden; James P. Harden, Sara Harden Drouin, Wynton H. Harden, Charles F. Harden, Mary Jones Harden, Evelyn H. Harden, John I. Harden, Jr., Virginia Harden Brockhoft and Jacquelyn A. Harden. Mr. Harden is survived by his sisters in law Mrs. John I. Harden Jr., Griffin; Mrs. Wynton H. Harden, Zebulon and Mrs. John T. Mitchell, Sr. Macon; Nephews John T. Mitchell, Jr. (Lisa), Macon; Terrell Mitchell (Kea), Valdosta; Niece Mary Eva Tredway (Craig), Johns Creek; and ten nieces and nephews; eight great nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mr. Harden's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. December 22, 2015 in the Chapel at First Baptist Church Jonesboro. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel prior to the service. Donations may be made to the Baptist Village in Waycross, Georgia where Mr. Harden served his late father in law Dr. Harvey R. Mitchell who was the organizing administrator at Baptist Village.
